Senior & Executive Accommodation Camp DRC

AMBS designed, engineered and manufactured a modular accommodation and support facility package for the redevelopment of an existing camp at a major copper and cobalt mining operation in Kolwezi, DRC. Developed for senior and executive personnel, the project comprised 20 senior accommodation units and 6 executive accommodation units, together with dedicated dining, gymnasium and recreation facilities. The modular system was engineered and supplied by AMBS for installation in the DRC by a locally appointed construction company.

The project formed part of the phased redevelopment of an existing accommodation camp at a major copper and cobalt mining operation in the DRC. The requirement was to replace existing dormitory accommodation with a higher specification environment for senior and executive personnel.

The development required purpose designed senior and executive accommodation together with communal facilities, including a gymnasium, dining facility and recreation lounge. The modular buildings also needed to incorporate the electrical, plumbing, fittings and building services required for subsequent installation and connection to the mine’s existing infrastructure.

AMBS developed a purpose designed modular building solution around the accommodation standards, functional requirements and site conditions of the project. The package comprised 20 senior accommodation units and 6 executive accommodation units, together with a gymnasium, dining facility and recreation lounge.

AMBS completed the detailed design and engineering required for manufacture and included construction and foundation drawings. The buildings were manufactured in South Africa with integrated electrical, plumbing, fixtures, fittings and building services, and engineered as a complete modular package for transport to the DRC and local installation.

AMBS manufactured and prepared the complete modular building package in South Africa for onward delivery to the project in the DRC. Installation and commissioning were undertaken by a locally appointed construction company using AMBS design, engineering and construction documentation.

This delivery model enabled the design, engineering and manufacture to be completed by AMBS, while allowing installation to be undertaken locally to suit the project's location, logistics and procurement strategy.
